Is Coffee Or Tea The Best For Your Caffeine Fix?

Caffeine is essential to many people’s daily routines. For some it may be a cup of coffee and for others a cup of tea, but does one of these beverages offer more health benefits than the other? We’re here to find out.

Coffee

With over 83% of adults committed to drinking coffee daily in America, coffee is by far the most popular beverage of the two.  Avid coffee drinkers are less likely to die prematurely from a disease than non-coffee drinker or moderate coffee drinkers according to a Harvard study. As a rich source of anti-oxidants, coffee consumption has also been attributed to preventing type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, and certain cancers.

While coffee offers various benefits, it also has been linked to slightly raising cholesterol and causing digestive issues because of its acidic nature. While many of us drink coffee for its caffeine, caffeine is a stimulant that can leave you feeling jittery or anxious and may possibly affect blood pressure.  Also, coffee is a diuretic which means that it naturally flushed the body of liquids and could leave you dehydrated.

Tea

While tea may not be as popular as coffee, this caffeinated beverage also offers various health benefits. Drinking tea can lower the risk of stroke and heart disease while fighting inflammation in the body. A recent study showed that two cups of green tea a day can fight age-related cognitive decline.

Coffee has been linked to a decline in bone strength, but tea has been attributed to higher bone density levels and slower rates of bone loss. Tea drinkers have been known to reap anti-aging benefits overall. The major disadvantage of tea is that contains tannins, an antioxidant that can reduce iron absorption.

Is one better than the other?

This comparison shows that neither of these caffeinated beverages has any major disadvantages over the other. If you’re looking for a caffeine fix, coffee has a higher amount of caffeine than green tea. Both beverages are sure to offer certain health benefits a long with a pick-me-up that will get you through a busy day.
