10 Tips for a Healthier Lifestyle

Trying to become healthier doesn't happen overnight as much as we'd like it to. A healthy lifestyle usually means eating well and exercising, but it is so much more too. 1.) Don’t eat processed foods
This is a tricky one that most people find hard to do. Processed foods are literally everywhere, we eat some without even noticing that they are processed. We know that it is hard to cut out all processed foods, that is why we like to stick to the 80/20 rule. 80% of the time you eat natural, unprocessed foods. Then 20% of the time you can eat processed foods as a treat. Processed foods include: chips, fries, candy, boxed mac and cheese, and more. As long as you eat natural foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains most of the time then you are on your way to a healthier lifestyle.
You have heard this one before. Everyone says exercise is the key to a healthy lifestyle, which it is. Exercising is necessary for health, however, not as necessary as some make it out to be. Exercising 5 days a week is a good amount for the average person and one will see the benefits physically and mentally from it.
3.) Drink water
Water is the key to life, you need to drink it to stay alive. However, so few people drink enough water daily. Water has been proven to help lose weight, lower blood pressure and maintain brain function. Drink 8 glasses of water per day to get the full benefits.
4.) Drink green tea
The miracle drink that no one thinks is beneficial. Fresh brewed green tea is amazing for memory, blood flow, and losing weight. It’s literally so good for you that doctors say drink as much as you want! Start off with one cup a day when you wake up, it has a little caffeine so it should give you a little boost in the morning.
5.) Take mental and stretch breaks
This is probably the most underrated way to achieve a healthy lifestyle. Taking 4 mental and stretch breaks relaxes your body and won’t make you feel as stressed. So when you feel overwhelmed, stretch your body and take your mind off of something for 10 minutes. This will increase creativity, and productivity.
6.) Be grateful
Thinking about 5 things you are grateful for each day is amazing for your mental health. Even thinking of the smallest things will make you feel happier and happier to be the person that you are. Think about them before bed every night and fall asleep with happy thoughts.
You may be thinking that we are crazy for telling you to meditate. Actually, doctors have said how good meditating is for the body. It doesn’t have to be crazy long or sitting in a weird way. It can be as easy as laying in bed with your eyes closed and just taking everything off your mind for a few minutes. The key is to focus on your breathing and to not have another worry in the world.
People say it’s the best medicine, and they are right. Laughing everyday can be good for your heart and also fend off the common cold. Not only does it have physical benefits but mental as well.
Something no one gets enough of. Sleep is required to be a functional human being, without sleep everything in your body weakens. Your immune system fails, your brain becomes groggy and your muscles start to lose tone. If you are an adult, it is necessary to get 8 hours of sleep a night.
Walking is the secret to staying active. Even if you don’t seem to get enough exercise walking will save you. We walk around to go places, to get things, it’s a part of our normal routine. Getting 10,000 steps a day is amazing for your health!
